I don't think it is fair to pick and choose the phases of nature to define what is beautiful - I believe decay can be just as glorious as a blooming flower. It's also good practice to observe phenomena without bias! Lots of people hate bugs, but many people LOVE bugs (just ask any macro photographer). Decay is interesting in the same way. Here, what was likely Mycena inclinata on a cut stump is being broken down by bacteria and green mold, perhaps a Trichoderma species.
