This photo won the North American Mycological Association Visual Arts Contest in the Photography - Abstract category!
I don't usually pose fungi for photographs, but this is one exception. I found a Strobilomyces (Old Man of the Woods) on the same beach where I grew up playing love-me-not with the petals of the Firewheel. I arranged them both together, and I didn't plan it, but it ended up looking like a gentle embrace. I see myself in the Firewheel, and of course, my old man in the Old Man. Without his encouragement, I would never have become the photographer I am today.
