Walnut Mycena

Walnut Mycenas (Mycena cf. crocea) are very picky about their food, only growing on nuts of the walnut family. Specialism in the natural world is really interesting - why walnuts? Why not just anything? Typically, specializing confers a competitive advantage against generalists. Perhaps these Mycenas are more tolerant of the toxins that walnuts produce, like juglone.
